Ranjit qualified as a solicitor in 1993 as such, he has more than 30 years post qualification experience, he heads the Mental Health Law Department. Ranjit is well known regionally as a specialist in this area by affiliates and professionals. His range of representation has covered all matters with a particular focus on forensic work with those detained under the 37/41 Restriction order. He founded the firm just over 20 years ago and the firm now provides representation in both Mental Health and the Court of Protection.
He has retained a long term teaching role in relation to Mental Health at De Montfort University. He also regularly presents to specialist Mental Health groups within the county and beyond.
Ranjit is able to converse in Asian languages which has led to gaining instructions from those with a language barrier. This has helped the process of representation through to tribunals for vulnerable individuals. Ranjit remains client focused and empathetic when acting for those at a time of great distress and tension.
He has been published in multiple Mental Health portals and has a chapter in ‘New ways of working in Mental Health’ by James Dooher on the role of a Mental Health Solicitor.
Ranjit is the past vice-president of the Midland Asian Lawyers Association. He was president of the Leicestershire Law Society in 2013. He is also the co-founder and president of Fosse BBC. Ranjit was a past member of the Leicester City Council involving himself in the ageing well committee.
His awards include: Solicitor of the Year in 2010, Signature award for Excellence in Professions in Owner Practices in 2016 and the LAMP Act of Kindness award in 2019. Additionally, he has been shortlisted in the LAPG Mental Health Solicitor of the year category in 2010 and shortlisted in the Leicester Law Society awards for Solicitor of the year in the Private Practice category in 2014.
Ranjit is the joint founder of UK friends of unique homes in Punjab and remains an ongoing trustee. The charity has raised awareness and over £500,000 to support the girls’ home in Punjab. Ranjit is also an ongoing team member of Midlands Langar Seva Society in Leicester and is involved in weekly food serving sessions and fundraising. He has supported a number of separate Mental Health Charities through the firm’s annual Mental Health Event raising funds and awareness.
Ranjit and his wife have jointly hosted a number of charitable events, most recently supporting Healing Little Hearts raising more than £32,000.
Ranjit enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoys travelling to new destinations. He is an avid supporter of Leicester City football club and enjoys attending football matches regularly. He also enjoys other sports, including cricket. Ranjit enjoys attending the gym and participates in walking football on a weekly basis. Ranjit enjoys dining out especially within the Indian and Italian cuisine. Ranjit appreciates a vast range of music and most recently attended the Burna Boy concert at the London Stadium.
