Rachel Cable

Rachel is a Court of Protection solicitor and started within the department at Thaliwal and Veja Solicitors in 2017. Rachel specialises in mental capacity and health and welfare cases, having been instructed by relevant person’s representatives, the Official Solicitor and the family of P. Rachel deals with s21A appeals and s16 welfare applications, representing clients in respect of various issues, including contact, residence disputes and fluctuating capacity.

Rachel has a keen interest in ensuring that P’s voice is heard and that their rights are protected throughout every step of their proceedings. Rachel has an excellent understanding of the difficulties that come with navigating complex court of protection proceedings and is able to sensitively and expertly provide advice to overcome those challenges faced by her client.

Throughout her career, Rachel has been successful in advocating for P’s return to the community, reduction and rescinding of contact restrictions and removal of deprivation of liberty safeguards.

Rachel has been the membership secretary for the Leicestershire Junior Lawyers Division since 2020. This organisation aims to connect junior lawyers from across the county in order to offer support and advice as they start their legal careers. This involves arranging networking events, career talks and social opportunities.

In her spare time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family, friends and foster-fail cat, Nemo. Rachel is active within local politics and has previously been a town councillor. Rachel is a member of a local book club and is always looking for recommendations for the next read.
